Our Broader Vision

Our vision is for total self-sustenance at both of centers, meaning all the food for workers involved will be produced at the centers.  Eventually we hope to harvest other products too, such as biogas, solar or hydro power, and alternative fuels.  We believe that by living close to the Earth in this way we gently encourage others to do the same by our example.  In the future we also hope to help make sustainable energy an attainable reality for more rural and indigenous families.

In the next few years we hope to create infrastructure at both centers and then begin the slow and patient process of acquiring further lands for conservation and reforestation.  We also hope to create networks and help fortify existing networks among like-minded conservation groups and organizations devoted to ecological agriculture and sustainable development.  Eventually we would like to include the participation of young people and students wherever possible, creating ties with local universities and institutions as well as creating immersion opportunities for students, volunteers, researchers, and visitors from the United States and other parts of the world.  Once our centers have been more fully developed, we hope to start programs of ecological awareness and enjoyment of nature for urban school children from Puerto Maldonado.

Ultimately we believe that ecologically responsible development and economic wellbeing are within the grasp of people everywhere.  It is our goal and our responsibility to do whatever small or great part we can to help realize that vision.
