Conservation of Primary Forests
Camino Verde currently protects a small reserve area of 20 hectares (50 acres) of primary, virgin rainforest at our center in Baltimori. As resources allow we will hope to expand this area in the future. The conservation of intact ecosystems is perhaps one of the more meaningful investments we can make in our children“s future. And untouched forest also serve as the source of seeds for all of our reforestation efforts.
We are now laying the foundation for an innovative new conservation modality in the years to come-- working with the owners of forestry concessions (extensive land leases from the Peruvian government for the extraction of timber) to create conservation areas within their concessions. Check back here for more information on the unfolding of this ground-breaking work.
