Mission

Camino Verde is a US-based non-profit organization dedicated to:

Protecting and understanding biodiversity in the Peruvian Amazon.
Protecting indigenous rights, autonomy, and wisdom.
Spreading sustainable ways of life and encouraging fair, sustainable development.

Camino Verde's work is focused in the Tambopata river basin in Madre de Dios, Peru. The nearby Tambopata Reserve is an important protected area that has been recognized as a biodiversity Hot Spot and is considered by some to be the most biodiverse place on Earth. Sadly, the region's forests and rivers face increasing pressures from migratory agriculture, irresponsible lumber extraction and reckless gold mining.

Our mission is to plant trees and encourage others to do the same.

Major infrastructure upgrade completed

At our Tambopata reforestation center, our new infrastructure is finally complete. Lodgings for staff, volunteers, and visitors are looking great. Check out our photo album of the new building here.

Camino Verde´s private conservation area officially recognized

Happy New Year! This just in: Peruvian Ministry of the Environment resolution RM 346-2012-MINAM officially recognizes the forests protected by Camino Verde as a private conservation area!

Our allies at the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law posted this story (in Spanish) on our recent recognition as custodians of land that is now considered a conservation area in perpetuity. The same article can also be found on the Actualidad Ambiental website.
